Jeffrey Geigel, President and CEO of the Helix Hearing Care Centre greeted Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe at Helix's Windsor, Ontario clinic.
Mr. Howe visited Helix to undergo a thorough hearing test and to educate other Canadians about the advantages of proper hearing healthcare.
Mr. Howe's Audiologist, Lisa Mayea, explained that he has high frequency hearing loss. Developing gradually and common among seniors, this type of hearing loss makes it difficult to understand speech – especially in noisy places like hockey arenas.
Lisa prescribed and fitted Mr. Howe with two open fit hearing aids. These are miniature behind the ear devices that deliver sound through a virtually invisible thin tube that fits over the ear and into the canal.
After his fitting Mr. Howe said, "Hearing aids have minimized the burden hearing loss had on my life. My friends and family don't have to continually repeat themselves and I rarely miss parts of conversations."
"It's been a real positive life change for me, and I want to encourage others who suffer like I did to have their problem fixed too," said Mr. Howe.
